Coaching for students
Some of the reasons students decide to work with a Coach?
Having trouble focusing in class
Appearing “lazy”, “scattered” or “unmotivated”
Overwhelmed in transitioning to middle school, high school, or college
Last year students trying to find a job or figure what their career should be
Not knowing when to ask for help
Feeling stress or anxiety around test-taking
Getting “stuck” or giving up easily
Need better study skills
What does Coaching mean?
Coaching is a way to set and reach some goals for yourself, possibly related to some of the elements of the list above. A coach is a trained professional who helps you think things through by asking a mixture of supportive and challenging questions.
Typically coaching might involve 3-6 coaching conversations spread over a number of weeks or months, and each coaching session might last up to an hour. You will agree some goals with your coach at the start of your coaching partnership and work towards these. Coaching length depends on students goals and how long term they are.
The coaching sessions are confidential. It's important that you have a coach you get on with, so you will be carefully matched.
Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
To ensure the effectiveness of student coaching strategies, evaluation and continuous improvement play a vital role. By regularly assessing progress and outcomes, adjusting coaching strategies as needed, and celebrating success while learning from challenges, we can refine our approach and support students in the best possible way.
Evaluation is an essential part of student coaching. By assessing the progress and outcomes of coaching sessions, we can gain valuable insights into the effectiveness of their strategies. This evaluation process involves objectively measuring the student’s progress towards their goals and identifying areas that require further attention.
To assess progress and outcomes, we can use various methods, such as self-assessments, feedback from students and teachers, and objective measures like test scores or academic performance. By collecting and analyzing this data, we can gain a comprehensive understanding of the impact of our coaching efforts.
Once progress and outcomes have been assessed, we can identify areas where adjustments to coaching strategies may be necessary. Each student is unique, and what works for one student may not work for another. It’s important for Coaches to be flexible and adaptable in their approach, tailoring coaching strategies to meet the individual needs of each student.
Adjustments may involve modifying goal-setting techniques, exploring alternative study skills, or finding new ways to enhance time management and organization. By continuously refining coaching strategies based on student feedback and assessment results, Coaches can provide personalized and effective support to their students.
Celebrating success is an important aspect of student coaching. Recognizing and acknowledging the achievements and milestones reached by students can boost their motivation and self-confidence. It’s essential for Coaches to celebrate both small and significant successes, as they contribute to the overall progress of the student.
In order to continuously improve, Coaches should also reflect on their own performance and learn from the challenges encountered during coaching sessions. This self-reflection helps Coaches identify areas for personal and professional growth, leading to enhanced coaching effectiveness.

Schedule the initial session (online) with the Coach to discuss your goals and objectives and what is important to you.
We step through an extensive questionnaire in order to get a clear picture of what the current challenges are, whilst discussing both strengths and weaknesses of the student and the areas that need focus, assistance and attention.
Discussion and review of the student success plan. Depending upon the key focus points outlined in the plan, a tailored approach for the student success program will be discussed and agreed upon moving forward.
Schedule sessions where we begin working with the student 1:1 to address all the key areas of focus as agreed. The aim of these student sessions is to work with the student on establishing new skills and habits. It is also about a student becoming empowered to become a more strategic learner and reach their own potential.
